When do I pay for car rental in Slovenia?
Car rental payment is arranged at the time of vehicle pick-up.
At pick-up, you are required to provide:
- full rental amount + security deposit (pre-authorization)
- For prepaid car rental bookings = rental amount + deposit
Can I pay for car rental in advance?
Yes, prepaid car rental is also possible:
- online booking (special cancellation terms apply)
- via proforma invoice (with ATET approval)
How does the car rental payment process work?
The car rental payment process at ATET is simple and transparent.
At vehicle pick-up:
- a pre-authorization (deposit hold) is placed on your card
- the amount includes the rental cost + deposit
After the rental ends:
- only the final rental amount is charged
- the remaining deposit is released back to your account

What payment methods are accepted for car hire at ATET?
Accepted payment methods:
- credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Diners)
- debit card (must allow pre-authorization)
- the card must be on renter's name
- **PIN may be required in persont at time of pick up
Which Credit Cards are acceptable for car rental?
For rent a car Slovenia services, ATET accepts:
- Visa
- Mastercard
- Diners
A valid card (Credit or Debit Card) must allow pre-authorization (deposit hold / reservation of funds).
Without a valid card, vehicle pick-up may not be possible.

Can I pay car rental with cash or with debit card?
For most car rental bookings in Slovenia, payment requires:
- Credit card or
- Debit card (with pre-authorization enabled)
*Cash payment is generally not available, except for international students.

What does the security deposit (liability) mean in car rental?
The deposit represents your maximum financial responsibility in case of damage to the rental vehicle.
👉 If damage occurs, you are liable up to this amount (unless reduced by insurance).
The deposit is a security amount used to cover:
- potential damages
- contract violations
- unpaid fees or fines
The amount depends on:
- vehicle category
- selected insurance package

When is the deposit released after car rental?
- The deposit is released after the vehicle is returned and inspected.
👉 Processing time depends on your bank and usually takes 7–14 days.
Special conditions for international students
- International students / Erasmus students have different car rental deposit conditions (lower prices and deposits)
