Things to do in Ljubljana.
Ljubljana is Slovenia's capital city. An economic, political, scientific, educational and cultural center, and on top of that the best place to visit.
There is plenty to do in Ljubljana. You can just sit at one of the cafes around Ljubljanica river and still have an interesting day, but if you like to do some sightseeing there are many opportunities. One of the most obvious choices is the Ljubljana castle that rises just above the old part of the city. It is easily accessible by car, cable car or even better on foot as it offers beautiful views over the area.
Bridges
One thing to be noticed is bridges. Ljubljana has many interesting ones, with The triple bridge probably being the most famous. Check Dragon's bridge as well. It is believed the first spanned bridge over Ljubljanica was built in the Roman period, when Ljubljana was called Emona.
Roman past
There are many reminders of the Roman past, like the Roman wall, Emona house and statue of the Emona citizen.
Architecture
Ljubljana is quite picturesque thanks to various architectural styles.
One of the most important was Baroque style, with the town hall being the most important representative.
Just outside there is a famous Robba fountain made by Venetian Sculptor Francesco Robba.
Other important Baroque buildings are the Franciscan church and Ursuline church.
If there is one architect to be named for the influence on how Ljubljana looks today it is Joze Plecnik. The triple bridge is just one of his masterpieces. There are others, like Plecnik arcades, Zale cemetery...
If you visit Ljubljana with kids, you can take them to Park Tivoli, a sport and recreational center, or to Ljubljana Zoo.

Ljubljana is also an excellent starting point for day trips in Slovenia. Portoroz is a good hour drive away, some of the best ski resorts, like Krvavec, Vogel, Kranjska Gora, Rogla or spa centers like Terme Ptuj, Terme 3000, Terme Olimia, are just as close.
