What should I do in case of an accident or damage with a rental car?

If you are involved in an accident, damage, or any incident with your rental car, you must immediately contact ATET and follow all instructions.

Timely notification is essential for proper handling of insurance, police procedures, and any claims.
What situations must be reported to ATET during car rental?
You must report immediately:
- traffic accidents
- vehicle damage
- technical breakdowns
- any incident involving third parties
- any situation that may cause liability or costs
Why is it important to report a car rental accident immediately?
Immediate reporting ensures:
- proper damage claim handling
- communication with insurance companies
- correct procedures with police or authorities
- eligibility for cost reimbursement
- Failure to report on time may result in loss of rights.
Do I need a police report in case of an accident?
- Yes, especially in cases of damage, theft, or disputes.
What happens if I do not report an accident or damage on time?
If you fail to notify ATET immediately:
- certain procedures may no longer be possible
- insurance claims may be rejected
- you may lose the right to reimbursement
👉 In this case, the renter can become fully responsible for all costs and damages. - Insurance of the vehicle / selected Excess Protection packages may not apply and full liability could be charged.
What should I do if my rental car breaks down?
If your rental car breaks down, you must contact ATET immediately and follow our instructions. Do not take any action before contacting ATET.

Can I repair the vehicle myself?
- No. Any repairs must previously be approved by ATET. All repairs must be: approved in advance, carried out at an authorized service center
What happens if I repair the rental car without approval?
If you repair the vehicle without prior approval:
- ATET will not reimburse the costs
- you may be fully responsible for all repair expenses
Will I be reimbursed for repair costs?
Yes, the cost for repair will can be reimbursed, but only if:
- the instructions for repair were given by ATET representative
- selected Excess Protection covers the damage / repair
- the repair was approved in advance
- it was done at an authorized service center
- you provide all required documentation: (repair invoice, replaced parts)
What if a new damage has been found on the vehicle upon return?
The renter is responsible for any new damages to the vehicle during the rental period, depending on the selected liability waiver and Excess Protection / coverage, or previously confirmed rental terms and conditions / Terms of Use.
In case of vehicle damage found after the return without the presence of an ATET representative, ATET d.o.o. reserves the right to inform the renter about the damage within 3 (three) business days after the end of the rental. The renter is responsible for any damages recognized by the renter or confirmed based on a report/inspection at an authorized service center.

Does insurance cover all types of damage?
- No. Coverage depends on the selected Excess Protections for ATET rental and/or exclusions. Additional information available under section Insurance, Excess Protection and Liability and also under our Terms of Use.

Does insurance cover tyre, glass, and undercarriage damage?
- Only with higher-level packages (e.g. ALL Inclusive Excess Protection) or WUG Protection (Windows, Undercarriage, Glass). Additional information available under section Insurance, Excess Protection and Liability and also under our Terms of Use.
Does insurance cover interior damage?
- Only if additional interior protection is purchased. Additional information available under section Insurance, Excess Protection and Liability and also under our Terms of Use.
What is included in car rental roadside assistance?
Roadside assistance (optional service) includes:
- organization of help in case of breakdown, accident, lost key, or flat tyre
- delivery of a replacement vehicle
- towing or vehicle removal costs
Does roadside assistance cover tyre replacement?
- No. Roadside assistance covers: organization of help
- But: the cost of the tyre itself is not included
Is roadside assistance included in car rental?
- No. Roadside assistance is an optional paid service that must be added to your car rental. You can add it either during online booking or at time of pick up in one of ATET offices,
