Short one day trip from ljubljana with car
Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia is wonderful starting point for your roadtrips, because of its position which is perfect to travel in all directions of country. We will concentrate on 5 ideas for a short roadtrip in this article, that can be reached from 20-45 minutes from Ljubljana with car.
Public transport is also possible for some location but we think that complete freedom, more time available for sightseeing and comfort of travelling with car is important for some types of travelers. 1. TECHNICAL MUSEUM OF SLOVENIA IN BISTRA
Bistra is a small village with couple dozen of inhabitant and is located between Vrhnika and Borovnica. There is a few reasons why you should visit Bistra and one of they is Technical Museum of Slovenia, which is actually in a building that was a monastery / castle. It is placed in a wonderful background with a park, a pond and embraced by a forest.
It attracts visitors not only with its rich cultural heritage and beautiful surroundings, but also with a lot of great exhibitions and events. Up to nine collections in exhibition are permanent and take almost 6000m2. The main themes of collections are evolution of printing, agriculture, traffic and technology, electricity, fishing and waters, models of planes and vehicles. A special and very popular is the collection of limousines of former Yugoslav prime minister Tito.
Every year there are few additional temporary exhitibition with some interesting themes (https://www.tms.si/en/exhibitions/ ). At the moment one of additional exhibitions shows the evolutuion and technology of Slovenian sport brands and equipment, it will last until December 31, 2022.

2. Iški Vintgar
A scenic gorge of Iška river is Iški vintgar. The most popular season to visit is in the summer, when the heat kicks in and we all look for some shade to coold down. The year round cold Iška river is perfect and the gorge serves with numerous river pools and »beaches«, where people stops for a refreshing toe dipping o reven for a swim (those more daring and not afraid of cold water). The location is perfect for picnics and hikes also, since there is a lot of trails and meadows to do just that. There is also a local tavern (Gostišče Iški Vintgar), where you can eat and drink something or enjoy a cold ice cream if you are visiting Slovenia in summer months.
Of course you can decide for a short car roadtrip in autumn or winter as well and enjoy a walk in nature, just few minutes from the Ljubljana city centre. With car you will need around 30 minutes to drive to Iški vintgar from Ljubljana.
3. Vače
Vače is small place in Muncipality of Litija, to which vistors are drawn because of multiple archeological sites from the ancient times. You can enjoy the archeological trail (approximately 5 km long) and find all about exceptional products made from top craftsman. The Vače situala is one of the most important archaelogical finds in Slovenia. Second important archeological find is the Fossil Beach (a geological landmark), where remains of fossil sea can be found from 10-13 million years ago.
The centre of Slovenia is a village Slivna. It is actually in the Geometric Centre of Slovenia and there you would be surrounded by symbols of Slovenia, beautiful nature and of course typical for Slovenia also a fresh clean air. You will find a GEOSS monument which represents the centre of Slovenia. You have an option of some additional guided tours. Here you can also find largest adventure park in Slovenia, where you can choose from 7 different climbing routes among the treetops. 4. Rakov Škocjan
The karstic valley Rakov Škocjan is the oldest landscape park in Slovenia (protected from 1949), lying between Cerknica and Planinsko field. With the same name as Škocjan Cave but a bit further away. It was created when cave roof has collapsed and partly by the river Rak. Whole area is filled with Karst phenomena. If you are the type of traveler that loves countryside, caves and gorges then you will absolutely enjoy your time here.
When you leave Primorska motorway on exit Postojna-Unec, after few minutes you will arrive to picturesque valley, which will be booming with colour in spring and summer. Of course a stroll in the autumnal woods is absolutely perfect in colder months, when you can get lost in colours of orange, brown and red. In all seasons of the year you can admire the sight on river Rak, which leads through the valley along with natural landmarks. Most known are Little and Big natural bridge and Tkalca Cave.
Rak didactic forest path, directed through an entire park, guides us along above mentined landmars and sights as well as few others. The trail is easy, with exception of few stops where some skills are needed to get through.
Distance from Ljubljana with car is around 45 minutes.

5. Rakitna
Rakitna is a settlement on Rakitna plateau and it lies approximately 800m above the sea level. It has the mixture of Mediterranean and Alpine airflows, therefore your lungs will be the ones most happy and thankful. There is actually a Youth Climatic Health resort here, a public health institution who focus on early treatment of children and adolecsents.
We can mostly find pine trees and firs here but the most popular day trip is a visi tof scenic Rakitna Lake. Perfect for walking and hiking around and you can also find a family owned hotel as well as some wooden lodges (modern apartments) around the lake. Lake is perfect for swimming in the summer and popular for ice skating in the winter. Families and tourists also enjoy some picturesque sledding in snowy Rakitna in winter months.
All through the year a circular 40 minute walk around the lake is a good choice if you want to enjoy some Slovenian nature.
